Finally: Google Mobile Ads

Google joined a handful of other companies by announcing that it is delivering mobile banner ads.

Companies that use Google's AdWords to advertise online now have the option of displaying a banner ad on cell phones instead of simple text. Google includes a text line under each banner identifying it as an advertisement. Clicking on the ad opens a mobile Web page for the advertisement....

Facebook Launches IM

Facebook users will now notice a new feature on their facebook page- IM. Will it work or not? Literally just launching, developers are posing this very question. I personally think its a great feature, one I have known for a while would be implemented by the palo alto company. It certainly needs some tweaking(In my opinion), but surely that is in the works already.

Watch out IM providers, facebook may be here to steal the show...

Marketers aim at the New Indiana Jones Movie

M&M's, Dr Pepper, Expedia, Burger King and Kraft Lunchables have launched big-budget marketing tie-ins for the movie.

Jaxie Alt, Dr. Pepper brand marketing director explains "We believe this is going to be the biggest movie of the summer. We wanted to figure out a way to be a part of it."

Personally, I am excited for the movie despite my doubts that Shia LaBeouf is going to ruin it.

Oh well, I guess we'll find out when the movie hits screens May 22nd.

Apparently, babies don't like lemons...who knew?

Grand Theft Auto IV: Big Time!

Though it won't be released for another 12 days, industry watchers have already projected a massive debut from the next installment in Rockstar North's prized franchise.

Last October, Janco Partner's Mike Hickey projected global opening-week sales of more than 9.5 million, with 5.8 million units turning up in US consumers' hands alone. Earlier this week, Variety reported that sources within Take-Two fully expect the game to sell some 6 million units in its opening week, generating revenue in excess of $400 million.

McCain Girls Turn Out to Be a Hoax

The McCain Girls mystery has been solved. The women belting out campaign slogans for the "straight talker" in the hits, "It's Raining McCain" and "Here Comes McCain Again", are the brain children of comedy site 236.com. John McCain gave a shout out to the group on Fox News, but at that time he didn't even know who the McCain Girls were. The New York Times has the full report below. Read more about the videos at 236.com.

The McCain Girls videos, which were posted on YouTube last month with no clues about their provenance, are clearly meant to be imitations of -- or parodies of -- the "Obama Girl" videos, which themselves are parodies (right?).

While the Obama Girl looks like a pinup and sings catchy tunes, the McCain Girls could not be confused with fashion models or pop music stars. Their first video, "Raining McCain," set to the tune of "It's Raining Men," was posted on YouTube four weeks ago. A sample lyric: "In the 2008 election, the forecast calls for rain; the first time in history, it's gonna start raining McCain."

That video recorded more than 1.6 million views and earned mentions on CNN and on ABC's "Good Morning America," with people alternately mocking it and wondering who was responsible. The singers seemed intentionally bad, which led many bloggers and YouTube commenters to assume that it was meant to insult Mr. McCain. The liberal blog Eschaton put it this way: "I believe the YouTube era begins the age when it is impossible to tell parody/irony/performance art from completely sincere product."

Drum roll, please: The creators of the McCain Girls turn out to be the comedy team behind 23/6, a five-month-old Web site owned by an affiliate of IAC/InterActiveCorp that parodies the news. The site, at 236.com, uses the motto "Some of the news, most of the time."

How this is possible, I will never know...

Sorry, Class of 2008 Grads

New college graduates around the country are going head first into the rockiest job market in recent years. Companies like Citigroup and J.P. Morgan Chase are scaling down on hiring fresh out of college graduates, but there is some good news! Although those graduates with "C" to even mid range "B" averages are facing some tough times, the talent of young minds is still in demand. The competition has just been "upped" as they, and this is the chance for those over-achieving and well-rounded individuals to stand out in the crowd. So now, more than ever, the pressure to distinguish yourself from the hundreds of thousands of 2008 college graduates is at hand. It certainly isn't a bad idea for those younger college students to make themselves aware of the job market they will soon be embarking upon.

So, best of luck 2008 as well as the entire job market and economy for that matter!

Wi-Fi in the Sky

Redefining the in-flight experience is about to catch fire as the FAA has granted an Internet provider for American Airlines and Virgin America carriers, the permission to press forward with Wi-Fi aircraft developments. As of now, no launch date has been estimated, but one thing is for certain: it will change the way people travel. I'm actually very surprised developments haven't been made faster!

BTW, this is a protest. In the words of the You Tube poster:

This is a protest dance by the dancing inmates on Jun Lozada comments on the inmates beloved Cardinal Vidal when he called the Cardinal the "Archbishop of the Palace" and His Lady companion called the Cardinal "a Congressman in a cassock" The dancing inmates feel that these comments is unfair and unjust vilification of the archdiocese of Cebu, Cardinal Vidal whom they regard so highly.

The Smart's Crash Test Rating

This explains bloggers' interest as to how the smart fortwo performs in a crash. Probably not the greatest video to peruse through when considering this car, but yet again who knows. If you crash any "relatively" small car into a wall at 70 mph, the results are for the most part pretty similar. This didn't do as badly as I thought, but I'm sure glad I wasn't in the car.
