Max Payne Movie Trailer

So I'll admit, freshman year of a college there was about a week period where the video game Max Payne 2 pretty much took over my life. Game play often went uninterrupted for hours with only minor breaks for food and bathroom trips. Anyway, there is a Max Payne movie in the works that is set to be released on October 17th. Mark Wahlberg will be starring in the movie as Max Payne, the troubled cop looking to get revenge on those responsible for the brutal murder of his family.

Tiger Woods Jesus Shot

EA Sports responded to a popular YouTube video last week with the release of their own video to promote Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09.

Here's the Ad Age article about the videos.

Response to the Tiger Woods Jesus Shot Video

Tis the Season...

...for football. While the NFL season coverage gets more intense in preparation for the start of the season don't forget that college football starts this week. Some teams begin playing as soon as tomorrow. While a lot of times the 1st game for major schools is nothing more than a warm up against a DII school there will undoubtedly be some drama (remember Michigan from last year).
The preseason rankings were released a few days ago and for the first time in school history, Georgia is the #1 ranked team in the preseason. Rounding out the top 5 are Ohio State, USC, Oklahoma and Florida.

Chocolate Rain

So I had seen that Chocolate Rain Video before on the internet but never knew why it was so funny. Some guy can make his voice really deep and it sounds funny when he sings....then I saw a clip of him on the Jimmy Kimmel Show and realized, "Wow, that's his real voice." So here's some videos of Tay Zonday, the Chocolate Rain guy....and no he has nothing to do with that one song called Candy Rain.

World's Fastest Man

Usain Bolt is a very very fast man. I wish he could actually focus himself for a full 10 seconds so we could see just how blindly fast he is but he likes to jog the last 20 meters of his races.

Anyway, check him out:
Usain Bolt's three Olympic races

Redeem Team 1, Phelps 8

Early Sunday morning the USA Olympic Basketball Team aka The Redeem Team took on 2006 reigning World Champs Spain. The game is really worth watching in its entirety as the game was a battle down to the last minute. With the amount of hype and pressure put on this years Olympic team (not to mention Lebron's guarantee) anything less than a gold would be considered failure.

Earlier in pool play the US beat Spain by 37 points. The USA overcame early foul trouble by Kobe Bryant and Lebron James with a great off the bench performance from Dwayne Wade. The game was close throughout with Spain having solid play from Juan Carlos Navarro, Marc Gasol and Rudy Fernandez. 17 year old Ricky Rubio started at point guard with Jose Calderon out due to a hand injury. It was a 4 point game with 2 minutes left but the USA was able to pull out the victory and our first gold medal in 8 years.

Military Technology for your iPhone

I don't remember exactly how I stumbled across it but the other day I found out about a product called invisibleSHIELD made by ZAGG Inc. As I recently got a new phone (due to the screen on my previous LG Shine cracking for no apparent reason) I was looking for a way to protect my investment. All of the reviews online seemed very favorable toward the invisibleSHIELD. Reviewers noted once applied you wouldn't even notice the SHIELD was there and that the military grade materials its made of made it impossible to scratch.

Well needless to say I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the invisibleSHIELD for both my LG Shine and my laptop. The package the whole thing arrived in was pretty cool I must say. It definitely played up the high tech military aspect and I was very excited to check it out for myself. Applying the invisibleSHIELD was a little more difficult than I had thought, Especially for my laptop. I had a few issues with the product getting stuck to itself and I imagine things would have been smoother with another pair of hands to help. Eventually, it was all applied, I used the squegee provided which got most of the air bubbles out and the smaller ones went away after a few days.

Overall, while a little more pricey than other screen protectors the invisibleSHIELD is a great buy. My phone and laptop look like new, no smudges or scratches and most of the time I don't even notice notice it.

The invisibleSHIELD is available for iPhones, iPods, laptops, digital cameras, PDAs, watches, and more.

Lebron vs Yao, Grizzlies vs Pandas

I've noticed a few different Coca-Cola commercials during the Olympics so far. The one about "if you've had a Coke in the last 80 years you've had a hand in making EVERY Olympic dream come true" kind of bugs me just because it seems like they are trying too hard to invoke an emotional response. The Lebron James & Yao Ming animated commercial however I find pretty memorable.

There's a catchy beat with a cool concept of each country trying to one up each other but both end up sharing the same interest in Coke. The slogan "Unity on the Coke side of life" even makes you feel kind of warm and fuzzy inside. It's not a commercial that will change the world but I enjoy watching it and remembered it and that's more than you can say about a majority of commercials.

Something to look for this weekend is the start of the English Premier League (EPL) tomorrow, August 16th. There are 7 matches tomorrow and 3 on Sunday, you will be able to catch some of the games on Fox Soccer Channel if you subscribe to it (which you all should). Here's the weekend schedule of games:

Joga Bonito "Play Beautifully"

Here are some of the Joga Bonito ads from 2 years ago that aired during the 2006 World Cup. The ads were created by Nike and apparently Joga Bontio is also a social networking site made in partnership with Google. The commercials hosted by legendary French star Eric Cantona and are filmed as if they are broadcast on an underground channel aimed to show the true beauty of football (soccer). The commercials feature some of the biggest names in international football, including: Wayne Rooney, Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thierry Henry to name a few.

16? Really?

If you watched the Woman's Gymnastics Team Final, the difference between the American & Chinese teams was apparent. Well, the first difference was the skill level of the Chinese, who took gold, but that may be in part to the age controversy surrounding some of the Chinese team.

Questions were raised before the Olympics about the age of some members of the Chinese team but the IOC and FIG (Federation International de Gymnastique) both deemed the girls' passports to be legitimate. Recent reports are saying that maybe as many as 3 of the Chinese gymnasts are under the age of 16.

Backwards Elbows......never a good thing

This is the moment Hungarian weightlifter Janos Baranyai's first Olympics ended in agony when he dislocated his right elbow in the ugliest moment yet of the Olympic weightlifting competition.

Baranyai was trying to snatch 148kg (325lbs) in his third lift in the men's 77kg (170lbs) division, when his elbow popped out of its socket.

No longer able to support the weight of the barbell, his right forearm bent backward. The 24-year-old Hungarian fell to the floor in shock, shaking and crying out in pain.

Hungary's coaching staff and competition officials rushed to Baranyai's aid as he lay trembling on the floor, his arm limp and twisted out of position.

Google Street View Captures Drunk

After the death of a friend, Bill went out to drink his sorrows away at a local bar. After sleeping it off on the sidewalk that night, little did Bill know he had his picture taken.
A few days later, Bill wasn't too pleased when he saw himself on Google Street View which launched in Australia last week.

Bill said he accepted he could not expect to have complete privacy in a public street, but he questioned whether his embarrassing moment should be broadcast over the internet.

Street View was launched in Australia last week and since then there have been a number of complaints about what has been captured on the video camera.

Weekend Preview - UFC 87

I swear this weekend preview thing won't solely feature MMA events but its just worked out that there's been two good ones in back to back weekends. Tomorrow night I am definitely looking forward to UFC 87: Seek and Destroy. Here's the event info:

UFC 87: Seek and Destroy
Date: Aug 09, 2008
Location: Minneapolis, Minn.
Venue: Target Center
Broadcast: Pay Per View

MAIN CARD
* Champ Georges St. Pierre vs. Jon Fitch (for welterweight title)
* Brock Lesnar vs. Heath Herring
* Kenny Florian vs. Roger Huerta
* Rob Emerson vs. Manny Gamburyan
* Jason MacDonald vs. Demian Maia

PRELIMINARY CARD
* Luke Cummo vs. Tamdan McCrory
* Dan Evensen vs. Cheick Kongo
* Jon Jones vs. Andre Gusmao
* Steve Bruno vs. Chris Wilson
* Ben Saunders vs. Ryan Thomas

My reasons for being excited for this event are as follows:

*St. Pierre is the future of MMA, the guy has no holes in his game, he out wrestles wrestlers, can strike, and even stepped up his Jiu-Jitsu game by training in Brazil before this fight. He truly is a hybrid fighter and is well rounded in every aspect of MMA.

*Brock Lesnar is a physical specimen. Don't think this guy was only a WWE pro wrestler, he was an NCAA All-American for 4 years at Minnesota and also won the NCAA championship at heavyweight. After walking away from millions offered by the WWE he tried out and made the practice squad for the Minnesota Vikings after not playing football since high school (I recently heard that during his try out, while weighing 295lbs, he ran a 4.7 40yd dash)

*Florian/Huerta has been talked about for "Fight of the Year" and while I don't think it will be as much of a 3 round war as everyone thinks, it should still be a great fight. Huerta is a really tough guy and will stand and trade with no fear but I think Florian's Muay Thai is too sharp for Huerta and he either picks him apart on the feet or puts his BJJ Black Belt to good use and locks in a submission.

*I'm also very interested to see Demian Maia fight. He is one of the most elite grapplers in the world. His Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu credentials are some of the best in the world and I'm very interested to see how he transitions over to MMA. Maia has won the BJJ Mundials and also the 2007 Abu Dhabi Combat Club World Submission Grappling Championship.

Will They Stay or Will They Go?

Yesterday two of the biggest questions of the off season in football were answered.

As I'm sure many of you heard either last night or this morning that Brett Favre will be joining the New York Jets after a trade was announced last night.

I'm sure everyone knows the story, how could you not, the Brett Favre saga has been in the headlines everyday for weeks. The Green Bay Packers stuck with their decision to go with Cal product Aaron Rodgers as quarterback next season and reluctantly dealt Favre to the Jets for draft picks.

Now, in other football news that you probably haven't heard, Portuguese superstar winger Cristiano Ronaldo has decided to stay with Manchester United for at least one more year. After leading the Red Devils to a Premier League Title and a UEFA Champions League Title this past season, Ronaldo expressed interest in playing in Spain, for Real Madrid in particular.

Now with both soap operas officially over, we as a sporting community can finally move on. No more speculation and waiting, we have our answers, let's be done with it.

Pineapple Express Opens Today

The latest film from Judd Apatow is set to hit theaters today. Pineapple Express, a "stoner action film" starring Seth Rogen is the most recent comedy on Apatow's impressive resume which includes Anchorman, 40 Year Old Virgin, Talladega Nights, Knocked Up and Superbad to name a few.

Check out what the critics at Rotten Tomatoes have to say

Check out the trailer:

China Censors US Speedskater

"Olympic gold medalist and outspoken Darfur activist Joey Cheek has had his visa revoked by the Chinese embassy, hours before the speedskating champion was set to fly to China. And he wasn't even planning on wearing a mask when he got there.

Chinese officials don't need a reason to revoke anyone's visa but, in their eyes, they had plenty of reasons to snatch Cheek's. He is the founder of Team Darfur, a group of 70 athletes whose goal it is to raise global awareness of the human-rights violations taking part in the Darfur region of Sudan. China's military, economic and diplomatic ties to Sudan have been well-publicized in the lead-up to the Games."

Weekend Preview - WEC 35

So I will try to make this Weekend Preview a weekly thing. I will give everyone a sporting event, movie, TV show, or something else I'm looking forward to during the weekend.

This weekend, the winner is WEC 35. World Extreme Cagefighting, a Zuffa (UFC's parent company) owned fight promotion, will be holding an event Sunday, August 3rd at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Three of the WEC champions will be defending their titles, so its definitely an event worth watching.

I attended the last WEC event at Arco Arena in Sacramento and got to watch hometown fighter (and UC Davis wrestling alum) Urijah Faber defend his Featherweight title against Jenz Pulver. The event was awesome and both the Faber/Pulver fight & the Torres/Maeda are in the discussion for fight of the year.

The schedule of fights is:
Main Card Bouts:
-Carlos Condit (#9 Welterweight in the World)* vs. Hiromitsu Miura (for WEC Welterweight Title)
-Jamie Varner vs. Marcus Hicks (for WEC Lightweight Title)
-Brian Stann vs. Steve Cantwell (for WEC Light Heavyweight Title)
-Brian Bowles vs. Damacio Page
-Micah Miller vs. Josh Grispi

Preliminary Bouts:
-Brock Larson vs. Carlo Prater
-Blas Avena Vs. Dave Terrel
-Kenji Osawa vs. Scott Jorgensen
-Greg McIntyre vs. Mike Budnik
-Todd Moore vs. Shane Roller

The main card bouts will air live & free on Versus at 6PM......TUNE IN AND CHECK IT OUT
