FAIL Friday: Thanksgiving

Don't think just because yesterday was Thanksgiving that I would forget about posting FAIL videos. I guess these videos are somewhat related to the holidays: ice sculptures, plane flights & turkeys.

In-Flight Movie FAIL

From the original poster of the video, "Just what you want to see when you're traveling at 35,000 feet. I shot this on an actual flight from LA to NYC. No special effects. Seems jetblue is just as "good" at selecting the right in-flight entertainment as they are at dealing with delays. This TV program could have potentially set off a panic attack in the cabin, for the fearful of flying."

Time to perform your civil duty. Record voter turnout is expected in California today.

A record 13.6 million California voters are expected to cast ballots in today's election, a 78.9 percent turnout that would be the largest in more than three decades, a new Field Poll predicted.

The presidential race between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain is attracting most of the attention, but a dozen statewide ballot measures, topped by a proposed ban on same-sex marriage, also are boosting turnout.

"That's over a million more voters than we had in 2004, which was the previous record," said Mark DiCamillo, the poll's director. "This is representative democracy in action."

Throughout California, nearly 3.8 million of the state's registered 17.3 million voters had cast ballots by mail or at early voting sites as of Friday. That's a 22 percent turnout, and hundreds of thousands of early ballots are still to be counted. About 53 percent of this year's votes are expected to be cast at the polls today. [SFGate]

Will Ferrell Returns to SNL

Last night's Saturday Night Live election special featured Will Ferrell returning to play George W. Bush as he gives his endorsement for McCain/Palin. As you can probably guess Tina Fey was also there to play Sarah Palin and Darrell Hammond played John McCain.

Ferrell reprised his famed impression of the president on the live "Weekend Update" special Thursday to give an "impromptu" evening address to the nation. He spoke about the election between John McCain and Barack Obama — both candidates, he said, that are "heavily patriotized" and "display much characterization."

He then gave his endorsement to McCain and Palin, something that they apparently didn't want. Ferrell said he was unaware that his approval ratings were low because he had several months ago declared the Oval Office a "bummer free zone." [AP]

Palin is a YouTube Gold Mine

I feel like every other day there is a new viral video clip of Sarah Palin getting passed around the internet. You would think someone in McCain's camp would have locked her away from doing anymore interviews because it seems like she gives the Obama campaign a new piece of gold every time she speaks on camera.

In this clip that's being heavily trafficked today, Palin, in response to a 3rd grader's question states the job of the Vice President is to be, "in charge of the United States Senate, so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom. And it's a great job and I look forward to having that job."

I guess significantly overstating the role and authority of the VP is better than her saying she doesn't know what it does, like in this clip.



In case you were wondering, "As President of the Senate (Article I, Section 3), the vice president oversees procedural matters and may cast a tie-breaking vote. There is a strong convention within the U.S. Senate that the vice president not use his or her position as President of the Senate to influence the passage of legislation or act in a partisan manner, except in the case of breaking tie votes. Another Big SNL Show

SNL has really come on strong this season. After a few recent years where it seemed SNL (except for a few very funny SNL Digital Short clips) had lost its popularity and relevance, it is back and just as funny as ever. The Tina Fey impersonations of Sarah Palin continued again this week but this time Sarah Palin actually made an appearance herself. This week's show was hosted by "W." star Josh Brolin. Tina Fey Plays Sarah Palin....again

Anne Hathaway hosted Saturday Night Live this past weekend. The highlights include....what else but Tina Fey playing Sarah Palin. This week Tina Fey & Jason Sudeikis parodied the Vice-Presidential Debate and Queen Latifah is also featured in the skit. The other included clip is Andy Samberg playing Mark Wahlberg as he talks to animals.

Since this is a pop culture blog I try to post things that are newsworthy, funny or of particular interest. For the last 2 weeks now various Sarah Palin videos have been in the Top 10 viral videos on the web.
